La Laguna residents have until Monday, May 25, to apply for property tax relief grants designed to support low-income households with primary residence costs.

The La Laguna City Council is entering the final stage of its grant application process for Property Tax (IBI) relief on primary residences. Residents have until next Monday, May 25, to submit their applications to the Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life.

This initiative, backed by a 10,000-euro budget, is designed to support lower-income households. The grant covers the full cost of the previous year’s property tax, up to a maximum of 300 euros per person. To qualify, applicants must prove financial hardship and meet the ownership and residency requirements outlined in the guidelines published on April 24.

María Cruz, head of the department, is urging residents to submit their paperwork promptly to ensure as many families as possible can benefit from this support. The City Council has opened several official channels to make the application process as simple as possible.

Once an application is approved, the grant will typically be applied as a credit toward the following year’s property tax bill, and the taxpayer will be notified accordingly. If the tax has already been paid, the council will issue a direct bank transfer to the beneficiary.

These grants are part of the council’s effort to adjust local tax policies to meet the current economic climate. By providing this relief, the city aims to help families manage the rising cost of living and provide a financial safety net for those who need it most.
