La Laguna's Oldest Three Wise Men Parade Sets New Route
San Cristóbal de La Laguna is finalizing preparations for its 113th Three Wise Men Parade on January 5th, featuring a new route ending on Heraclio Sánchez Street for improved accessibility and safety, with 12 themed floats and over 400 participants.
The City Council of San Cristóbal de La Laguna is putting the finishing touches on the Grand Parade of the Three Wise Men. This year, the parade will wind through the city's historic center on January 5th, with a new route that will end for the first time on Heraclio Sánchez Street.
This traditional event, now in its 113th year, will feature 12 themed floats and over 400 participants. It's a parade that has taken place every year without fail since 1912.
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez of San Cristóbal de La Laguna recently inspected the progress of the floats' construction and decoration. He noted that they include several new themes this year. These new themes include scenes from children's movies, dinosaur settings, and nods to the island's volcanic origins. Of course, the traditional royal floats of the Three Wise Men and the coal wagons will also be part of the procession.
Dailos González, the Councilor for Festivities, explained the change in route. He said that Heraclio Sánchez Street was chosen as the new finishing point because it offers better accessibility and safety, making it easier to set up the planned arrangements for that section. The councilor also pointed out that this street makes it easier for people using the tram to reach the parade. It's just a short walk from the La Trinidad tram stop and is already beautifully lit up with the city's Christmas decorations.
The City Council will inform residents and businesses on Heraclio Sánchez Street about the route change in the coming days, sending letters by regular mail. Their cooperation will be greatly appreciated, and they will be given contact details for any questions or issues.
During his visit, the mayor was joined by Fran Hernández, the Councilor for Municipal Services. The mayor reminded everyone that La Laguna's Three Wise Men Parade is the oldest in the Canary Islands and the third longest-running in Spain. This highlights how deeply important and traditional this event is for the people of the municipality and the whole island.
