The latest Northeast Region Tapas Route in La Laguna has wrapped up, proving to be a major success for the community. The event highlighted a new approach to local business, with digital tools playing a central role in boosting neighborhood engagement.

Supported by the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA) and the La Laguna Commercial Zone association (LLZC), the competition saw Tasca Los Corazones take home the top prize, the Gold Tapa, with 543 votes. Bar Restaurante El Fogón earned the Silver Tapa with 434 votes, while Cafetería Vanely secured the Bronze Tapa with 357 votes.

A key highlight of this year’s event was the use of the La Laguna Commercial Zone mobile app, which collected over 700 customer ratings. This digital system made the voting process faster and helped local businesses connect more directly with their customers.

Estefanía Díaz, the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, noted that these initiatives are vital for bringing life to residential areas. Juan Antonio Alonso, CEO of GMR Canarias, added that such events are essential for encouraging the consumption of local products.

Moving forward, this digital-first format will be a cornerstone of La Laguna’s economic strategy. City officials and business leaders—including FAUCA president Abbas Moujir and LLZC president Iván Pérez—are committed to continuing these competitions, viewing local gastronomy as a powerful way to support small businesses and strengthen the regional economy.
