La Laguna's 'Christmas with Heart' Collects Aid Friday
The "Christmas with Heart" charity campaign returns to La Laguna's Plaza de la Catedral this Friday, December 19, at 10 AM, collecting non-perishable food, hygiene items, toys, and pet supplies for vulnerable families and animal welfare groups.
The charity campaign 'Christmas with Heart' is returning for La Laguna's Christmas this Friday, December 19, in the Plaza de la Catedral, starting at 10:00 AM. This initiative is organized by the La Laguna City Council, through its Citizen Security department and Local Police, in partnership with the Asocupol Association. It aims to collect non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, and new or gently used toys.
The Red Cross and Caritas will then distribute these collected items to the municipality's most vulnerable families, helping them celebrate the Christmas holidays. For the past two years, the campaign has also gathered donations for dogs and cats. These pet supplies will go to families with pets and to animal welfare groups and shelters.
La Laguna's Mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the Councilor for Citizen Security, Badel Albelo, are urging everyone to support this charitable effort. They highlight that it plays a vital social role and sees more participation every year. They are encouraging individuals, groups, organizations, schools, and associations from across the entire island, not just La Laguna, to get involved.
'Christmas with Heart' will again feature a display of vintage vehicles from the Red Cross and volunteer firefighters, who are regular supporters of the campaign. The collection point will be set up in front of the Cathedral. Staff from the Citizen Security Department and Local Police officers will manage it. The officers will be dressed in police uniforms from the 1960s and 70s and will use the traditional pedestal that La Laguna officers once stood on to direct city traffic.
