San Cristóbal de La Laguna has rescheduled its "Mundo Japón" cultural festival to this weekend, condensing a diverse program of traditional and pop culture activities across the city's historic sites following weather disruptions.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna is gearing up for the latest edition of "Mundo Japón," an event that has become a staple of the city’s cultural calendar. Due to the unstable weather brought by Storm Therese, organizers have rescheduled the event, condensing all activities into this coming weekend.

Supported by the La Laguna City Council, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands, the La Laguna Commercial Zone, and the Japan Foundation, the festival aims to bridge the gap between Japanese tradition and modern pop culture. Events will take place across several historic sites, including Casa Anchieta, the Casino de La Laguna, the Leal Theatre, and the Plaza del Adelantado.

The updated weekend schedule is packed with variety. At Casa Anchieta, visitors can explore exhibits on samurai and ninja armor, as well as a showcase dedicated to manga. Saturday’s lineup features workshops on origami, shodo, bonsai, shiatsu, and kimono, alongside a discussion on personal experiences in Japan, a karaoke session, and film screenings. Additionally, the Leal Theatre will host a performance by Satomi Morimoto & Friends.

On Sunday, the Plaza del Adelantado will become a hub for martial arts, featuring demonstrations of judo, karate, Muay Thai, taekwondo, eskrima, Bujinkan, aikido, and kendo. The event will conclude at Casa Anchieta with a traditional tea ceremony, movement and breathing workshops, and a final film screening.

More than just a series of performances, this initiative highlights La Laguna’s role as a center for cultural exchange. By blending gastronomy, the arts, and history, the organizers hope to provide a well-rounded view of Japan, creating a space that encourages social interaction and a deeper understanding of Japanese culture within the Canary Islands.
