La Laguna police officers dramatically intervened on Thursday night, pulling a woman to safety from a pedestrian bridge just as she was about to fall onto the Tenerife North highway (TF-5).

Local police officers in La Laguna saved a woman's life on Thursday night, preventing her from falling onto the Tenerife North highway (TF-5). Officers quickly intervened, stopping her just before she could drop onto the lanes heading towards Santa Cruz.

The incident happened at 9:15 PM, as officers from Group 2 were nearing the end of their shift.

They received an urgent call from the 1-1-2 emergency control room. The alert, originally from the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC), reported a person on the pedestrian bridge that crosses the highway from the hospital complex towards Taco, who appeared to be suicidal.

Several police patrols rushed to the bridge, with the Accident Investigation Unit arriving first.

These officers confirmed a young woman was on top of the bridge, sitting on the railing with her feet hanging over the edge, seemingly ready to jump onto the highway below.

Other local police officers immediately stopped traffic on all three southbound lanes towards the capital of Tenerife, ensuring no vehicles would pass under the bridge.

Three municipal officers then went onto the pedestrian bridge and approached the woman. They tried to talk to her, but she remained silent and unresponsive to their instructions.

The officers carefully moved closer, getting to within about two and a half meters of her.

At a critical moment, sensing she might fall, the local police officers lunged forward. They managed to grab her at the last second, pulling her back to safety onto the pedestrian walkway.

Once the woman was secure, her colleagues reopened the highway lanes. She was then taken to the Emergency Department of the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) for assessment and care.
