Tenerife's Island Council has provided six new plug-in hybrid vehicles to the La Laguna Local Police to enhance security and sustainable monitoring in the Anaga Rural Park and other protected natural areas.

Tenerife's Island Council has given six new vehicles to the La Laguna Local Police. These vehicles will help improve security and monitoring in the Anaga Rural Park and other protected natural areas around La Laguna.

The vehicles were handed over on Tuesday, December 23, as part of an agreement with the Department of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies. The fleet includes five 4x4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) patrol cars and a van for investigating accidents. Their main purpose is to boost police presence and control in these valuable natural and tourist areas.

Rosa Dávila, President of the Tenerife Island Council, officially handed over the vehicles. She stated that this initiative aims to improve security and sustainability in natural areas, particularly the Anaga Rural Park.

These new vehicles come with equipment for transporting detainees and will allow officers to reach and operate effectively in hard-to-access areas. As plug-in hybrids, they can run on electric power, which means less noise and pollution in sensitive natural areas.

Police efforts will particularly focus on the Cruz del Carmen area, where monitoring and police presence will be stepped up. The goal is to ensure environmental rules are followed, prevent illegal access and activities, and make visitors to the park safer.

Blanca Pérez, the Tenerife Island Council's Councillor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, stated that these vehicles will make surveillance in the Anaga Rural Park more effective. She added that using hybrid units will also help make security services more sustainable.

Meanwhile, Badel Albelo, La Laguna's First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Citizen Security, thanked the Island Council for making this agreement happen. He noted that it boosts the Local Police's vehicle fleet and improves their ability to monitor and protect this important natural area.
