La Laguna Opens New Parking Facility to Ease City Center Congestion
San Cristóbal de La Laguna has opened a new 37-space parking lot near La Vega Park to reduce traffic congestion and support the upcoming revitalization of the area's public facilities.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna has expanded its urban mobility strategy this week by opening a new parking lot next to La Vega Park. The local council says the project aims to reduce traffic congestion near the historic center and the Avenida República de Argentina residential area.
Managed by the Departments of Works and Services, the project involved a complete renovation of the site, including new paving and upgraded underground utilities. The new lot provides 37 parking spaces: 23 standard spots, eight spots for hybrid or electric vehicles (with pre-installed charging capabilities), four motorcycle spaces, and two spots reserved for people with reduced mobility.
This facility is part of a broader network of parking areas located around the city’s perimeter. Its location is strategic, as La Vega Park is a major hub for recreation and sports, featuring skate and BMX tracks, calisthenics equipment, and playgrounds. It is also situated near Camino de Las Peras, a popular route for walkers and joggers.
Beyond improving parking, the City Council is using this project to help revitalize local public services. Alongside the parking opening, the council is working to reopen the park’s cafeteria, which has been closed since 2016. Officials expect the café to resume operations in the coming months, with a management model dedicated to providing job opportunities for people with disabilities.
