La Laguna City Council is nearing completion of a major upgrade at the Punta del Hidalgo campsite, enhancing facilities, accessibility, and visitor experience, with many improvements set to be ready by Holy Week.

La Laguna City Council's Public Works Department is nearing the completion of a major upgrade project for the Punta del Hidalgo campsite. Councilor Ángel Chinea explained yesterday that much of the current work is focused on the main building. Here, old structures have been removed, new support walls built, part of the roof waterproofed, and the rest of the building renovated.

This building is expected to be finished in February. It will house the campsite's reception and offices for management and security staff, who are currently working from a temporary booth.

Chinea added, "We aim to complete these improvements by the end of March. Many of the new features should be ready for use by the upcoming Holy Week, a time when the campsite is usually fully booked."

This week, La Laguna Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez and Councilor Chinea visited the site with city council technical staff. They checked the work's progress and discussed plans for the coming months.

The mayor noted that "significant improvements were introduced throughout 2025, which have greatly enhanced our visitors' experience. This is clear from the high occupancy rates since the campsite reopened and the positive feedback in recent surveys. In these surveys, 90% of people said they would recommend the campsite to friends and family."

Ángel Chinea also announced plans for the area where the old Caretaker's House stood. Once it's demolished and the land prepared, the City Council intends to add picnic tables and benches, along with shaded areas from plants and structures, for campers to enjoy.

The campsite's perimeter fence is also being upgraded. It will include outward-facing privacy screens and significantly improved security for all pitches. This work will be completed next month. New plants, including aromatic and other decorative species, will also be planted to beautify the area.

Many bathrooms across the pitches and common areas have already been renovated. The next phase involves creating accessible facilities for people with motor and visual disabilities, as well as an ostomy-friendly bathroom, in line with current regulations.

Additionally, the campsite's general signage has been updated with helpful information for visitors. Electrical outlets for caravans and motorhomes have been improved, other landscaped areas have been tidied up, and the entire fire safety system has been checked and updated.

The campsite spans 24,000 square meters and can accommodate 250 people across 63 pitches. Those wishing to book a spot must do so through the new booking website.
