La Laguna Launches New 1.4 Million Euro Voucher Scheme to Boost Local Businesses
La Laguna City Council is launching a 1.4 million euro economic revitalization program on September 1, offering 70,000 subsidized vouchers to support 283 local businesses.
La Laguna City Council is launching a new round of its economic revitalization program, designed to boost local businesses through a consumer voucher scheme. Starting September 1, the public will be able to purchase 70,000 discount vouchers.
The program continues its successful public-private partnership model. Each 20-euro voucher costs residents only 10 euros, with the local government covering the remaining half. Using a national ID or passport, each person can buy up to five vouchers, allowing them to spend 100 euros while only paying 50.
This initiative represents a 1.4 million euro investment, split between municipal funding and consumer spending. The goal is to help local shops compete with large retail chains and online platforms, while also providing financial relief to families. Following the rapid success of last year’s program, the council has increased the number of vouchers by 20,000 to meet expected demand.
A total of 283 local businesses are participating, ranging from hardware stores, bookstores, and fashion boutiques to specialized services like tattoo studios. These businesses are spread across the historic center and surrounding areas, including Tejina, Valle de Guerra, Bajamar, Taco, La Cuesta, Guamasa, and Geneto.
While the official website, bonocomerciolalaguna.com, has been set up to handle all purchases, the City Council has yet to announce the exact time the system will go live or the deadline for using the vouchers. After the program generated nearly one million euros in economic impact last year, local officials are confident this new injection of funds will continue to strengthen the community’s retail sector.
