La Laguna Launches Major Water Infrastructure Upgrade to Reduce Leaks
La Laguna has launched a multi-site infrastructure project in partnership with Teidagua to modernize water supply networks and reduce leakage through 2026.
La Laguna is stepping up its efforts to modernize its water infrastructure. As part of a joint plan between the local government and the utility company Teidagua for 2025–2026, crews are currently upgrading local water supply networks. These improvements are designed to boost efficiency and fix the leaks that have long plagued the public system.
Work is underway at five key locations across the municipality, ranging from busy urban streets to more remote areas. The sites include Domingo González Pérez road in San Miguel de Geneto, El Rosario street in San Matías, Camino La Degollada in Las Mercedes, Camino Jardina Alta, and the connection between Camino La Atravesada and Camino La Mina.
To keep water flowing for residents, the team is installing new pipes alongside the old ones. This approach ensures that water service is only interrupted during the final connection phase and when updating individual home access points. The company has promised to notify residents in advance of any temporary service cuts.
Ángel Chinea, head of the city’s Integral Water Cycle department, stated that these upgrades are a core part of the municipality’s commitment to sustainability and better water management. Braulio Domínguez of Teidagua added that the projects follow the company’s Master Plan, which aims to make the distribution network more reliable.
This initiative is part of a wider effort across Tenerife to renew aging water systems and reduce waste. With work scheduled to continue through 2026, the project is a vital step toward ensuring a stable water supply in the face of resource shortages and the need for more efficient infrastructure.
