The La Laguna Commercial Zone Business Association is launching a campaign to boost the local economy by encouraging twenty-two businesses to remain open this May 1st in the historic center and surrounding areas of Tenerife.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna is launching a new initiative this May 1st to boost the local economy. The La Laguna Commercial Zone Business Association (LLZC) is running a campaign titled "Commercial Opening – May 1, 2026," designed to attract visitors to the historic center, surrounding areas, and the Northeast region of Tenerife during the public holiday.

Twenty-two local businesses have already confirmed they will be open on Friday. The participating shops offer a wide variety of services, including restaurants, fashion boutiques, florists, and specialty food stores. This variety is part of a broader strategy to establish the municipality as a top destination for tourism and leisure, encouraging residents to support local businesses rather than shopping elsewhere.

Opening on national holidays is permitted in areas with high tourist traffic, and for the LLZC, these days act as a key indicator of local spending habits. Beyond immediate sales, the association hopes to revive the habit of shopping locally and strengthen the unique identity of La Laguna’s neighborhoods.

To help residents and visitors plan their day, the association has listed the specific opening hours for each participating business on their website, app.lalagunazonacomercial.com. This digital tool is the official resource for checking which shops and services will be available during the holiday.
