La Laguna has launched the "AquaFuture" program, deploying an intelligent sensor network across its sewer system to enhance infrastructure efficiency and environmental protection through real-time data monitoring.

La Laguna is transforming how it manages its public water services by digitizing its infrastructure. Through the new "AquaFuture" program, launched by the City Council and the joint venture Teidagua, the city has installed an intelligent monitoring network in its sewer system to improve both efficiency and environmental protection.

The project includes 45 control units placed at strategic points across the city. This network features 33 radar devices to monitor water levels, seven units to measure flow, and five stations that continuously analyze water quality. These upgrades help the local government meet strict European standards for water purification and discharge control, ensuring better oversight of how the sanitation system affects the local ecosystem.

The true value of this technology is its ability to predict problems before they escalate. The system can pinpoint the exact source and size of any polluting discharge the moment it happens. By providing real-time data, the network allows managers to address issues—such as potential overflows or structural failures—before they become major problems. This shift from reactive repairs to data-driven decision-making not only protects the city's infrastructure but also helps prevent environmental damage.
