
La Laguna Kicks Off 5th Free Winter Music Fest
The Guillermo González Municipal School of Music in La Laguna is hosting its free 5th Winter Music Fest from this Tuesday until February 13, featuring workshops, talks, concerts, and collaborative performances across multiple venues.
The Guillermo González Municipal School of Music in La Laguna is hosting its 5th Winter Music Fest. This free event runs from this Tuesday until February 13 at various locations: the school itself, the old Convent of Santo Domingo, the Leal Theater, and the Aguere Cultural Space.
The festival program features workshops, talks, concerts, and special collaborative performances. These performances will bring together students from music schools in Icod, Los Realejos, La Orotava, Isla Baja, Santa Cruz, and Güímar, along with students from the Professional Music Conservatory of Tenerife and CEIP Juan Cruz Ruiz.
The festival kicks off tomorrow, Tuesday, at 4:00 PM with a music conducting workshop at the Municipal School of Music. Musician and orchestra conductor David González will lead this session. The official opening ceremony follows at 5:00 PM at the old Convent of Santo Domingo. Afterward, percussionist and composer Takeo Takahashi will host an improvisation workshop. The day concludes with a concert by the La Laguna School's Junior and Luz de Aguere ensembles.
On Wednesday, Tenerife guitarist and composer Manolo Rodríguez will present his new album, Nombres propios, with a special listening party at the Leal Theater. He will be joined by pianist Samuel Labrador and vocalist Ram Misra, and journalist Alexis Hernández will moderate the event, where Rodríguez will discuss the album's creative journey.
Thursday's program includes a "Flautas del Norte" (Northern Flutes) session, bringing together students from music schools in Icod, Los Realejos, La Orotava, Isla Baja, and La Laguna. This combined group will then perform a special concert.
Friday features a harpsichord workshop led by Professor Raquel García, focusing on this important baroque instrument. Musician David González will also hold another practical music conducting session. The day ends with a concert featuring Violonchelo Filarmonía, the String Orchestra of CEIP Juan Cruz Ruiz, and the harpsichord department from the Professional Music Conservatory.
On Saturday, February 7, attendees can enjoy a short recital centered on Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion, followed by a baroque music session led by violin professor Maite Iglesias.
Monday the 9th offers another practical music conducting class with David González. There will also be an activity exploring classical and modern guitar, and a concert by artists Víctor Toral and Wolfgang Pointner. The guitar activity and the concert will be repeated at the Aguere Cultural Space on February 11.
Before that, on Tuesday the 10th, participants from the music conducting workshops will have the chance to lead the Luz de Aguere Ensemble from the Municipal School of Music of La Laguna in a rehearsal.
The 5th Winter Music Fest concludes on Friday the 13th with "Flügel mode ON - Trumpeters to the power of the flugelhorn," led by trumpet professor Aitor Acosta. The closing day also features a brass and percussion concert performed by students from music schools in Santa Cruz, Güímar, La Orotava, and La Laguna.
