La Laguna Invests €30,000 to Transform Tejina Market into Local Hub
La Laguna City Council is investing 30,000 euros into the Saberes y Sabores del Nordeste association to revitalize the Tejina market and promote local "zero-kilometer" producers through storytelling and community-focused events.
La Laguna City Council is investing 30,000 euros into the Saberes y Sabores del Nordeste association to boost the local economy. This agreement aims to turn the Tejina market into more than just a place to shop; it is designed to become a hub for social activity and community growth.
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez has approved a plan that goes beyond simple financial aid. The goal is to highlight the origin and quality of local goods by sharing the stories behind them. Each stall will feature information about the farms, the techniques used, and the history of the producers. This will be supported by a digital campaign, including video podcasts and other content that showcases the daily lives of local farmers and artisans.
This funding arrives as "zero-kilometer" consumption—buying food produced nearby—becomes a top priority for the island. The association, founded in 2020 and representing nearly forty local professionals, will organize a series of events that connect the market with cultural traditions, such as the San Andrés festivities and the Corazones de Tejina.
By giving local products a distinct identity—with a focus on wine and chestnuts—the city hopes to help small, family-run farms thrive. This initiative provides the visibility these producers need to compete in today’s market and ensures the long-term survival of their traditional business model.
