La Laguna Hosts "Tecnogol" Event to Merge Gaming and Physical Activity
La Laguna will host "La Laguna Tecnogol" this Sunday, a municipal event designed to foster community engagement by combining inclusive sports with interactive digital gaming in Plaza del Cristo.
This Sunday, August 16, La Laguna’s Plaza del Cristo will host "La Laguna Tecnogol," a new municipal event designed to blend physical activity with digital gaming. By moving video games and electronic devices out of the home and into a public space, the local City Council hopes to encourage social interaction and community engagement.
The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is built around two main themes. The sports program features inclusive football sessions and "walking football," a version of the game designed to be accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. There will also be dedicated blocks for free team play from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 3:00 p.m. until the event concludes.
Alongside the sports, the "Techno Zone" will offer an interactive space for experimentation. Sergio Eiroa, the Councilor for Education and Youth, explained that the goal is to show that technology can be a tool for shared learning and building connections between generations. The council aims to move young people away from the sedentary nature of typical screen time by offering a more dynamic, active experience.
This initiative is part of a broader trend in Spanish youth policy, which seeks to tackle social isolation and sedentary habits by combining digital and physical activities. By bringing gaming into an urban setting, La Laguna hopes to transform technology from an individual pastime into a way to bring the community together. Ultimately, the day serves as an experiment in using active participation to strengthen social bonds.
