La Laguna Hosts Ninth Edition of 'Heritage Nights' With Exclusive Access to Historic Sites
La Laguna is hosting the ninth edition of "Las Noches del Patrimonio" this weekend, offering exclusive public access to historic sites alongside a program of guided tours and cultural performances.
This weekend, La Laguna will become the heart of history in the Canary Islands as it hosts the ninth edition of "Las Noches del Patrimonio" (Heritage Nights). As the only city in the archipelago with UNESCO World Heritage status, La Laguna has scheduled a series of special events. Because these activities coincide with the local Cristo festivities, the city is holding its celebration one week later than the other 15 cities in Spain’s World Heritage network.
The event offers a rare chance to visit historic properties that are usually closed to the public due to their private use or delicate condition. Highlights include the Palacio de Nava in the Plaza del Adelantado, where visitors can view the entrance hall and grand staircase, and the Casa del Corregidor, which will open its lobby and main entrance following recent restoration work on its volcanic stone facade.
The program is divided into two main categories:
Guided Tours There are 16 guided routes available—eight per day, split between morning and afternoon. Each group is limited to 30 people, and booking in advance through La Laguna Tourism is required. These tours cover architectural landmarks including Casa Lercaro, Casa Salazar, Casa Anchieta, Casa de los Capitanes, the Cathedral, the Church of La Concepción, the former convent of Santo Domingo, and the City Hall’s Plenary Hall.
"La Laguna: A Heritage from Above" This initiative offers a first-come, first-served opportunity to explore elevated areas of historic buildings, such as the Convent of Santa Clara de Asís, the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, and the Instituto de Canarias-Cabrera Pinto. These visits focus on high choirs, towers, and chapels, with three 45-minute night sessions per location, limited to 20 people per group. Please note that due to the nature of these historic structures, these areas are not accessible to those with reduced mobility.
The weekend also features cultural performances and presentations. On Saturday, the Plaza de La Concepción will host "Monumenta Performance," a dance project by local artist Yapci Ramos that reimagines female Guanche figures. Additionally, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Teatro Leal will host the presentation of the catalog for the exhibition "Lagunear. Memoria y Transformación," which documents the city’s 25 years as a World Heritage site.
