La Laguna Hosts First International Sports Forum Outside Spanish Mainland
The city of La Laguna is hosting its first International Sports Forum, featuring elite athletes and coaches in a two-day event aimed at sharing professional insights and building a lasting sporting legacy in the Canary Islands.
La Laguna is the center of the national sports conversation this week as it hosts the first International Sports Forum (FID) to be held outside the Spanish mainland. According to the San Cristóbal de La Laguna City Council, the Tenerife municipality was chosen to host the event, which has become a benchmark for discussing and analyzing high-level competition over the last decade.
The event kicked off with an official reception for former tennis star Álex Corretja, attended by city officials and organizers. The main program takes place at the Leal Theatre over two days, starting today at 6:00 p.m. The opening session features weightlifter Lydia Valentín, canoeist Saúl Craviotto, and footballer Pedro Rodríguez, who will discuss the challenges of elite professional sports.
The series continues tomorrow at the same time with appearances by Álex Corretja, coach Pepu Hernández, and CD Tenerife executive Felipe Miñambres. This lineup aims to share personal experiences that inspire and motivate the public.
FID director Francisco del Río noted that bringing the forum to La Laguna is a strategic move to build a lasting legacy of knowledge in the Canary Islands. The local Autonomous Sports Organization added that the event not only highlights the city’s ability to host large-scale gatherings but also provides a valuable educational opportunity, giving the public direct access to figures who have shaped Spanish sports history. The goal is to create a space for ongoing learning that lasts well beyond the event itself.
