La Laguna is hosting a diverse array of cultural events this month, ranging from the historic Librea de Valle de Guerra reenactment to theater performances, craft fairs, and international film screenings.

La Laguna is cementing its status as a top cultural hub this month, according to the local city council. The upcoming program showcases the vibrancy of the local arts scene while highlighting the importance of keeping historical traditions alive in today’s society.

The highlight of the week takes place this Saturday night at the square of the Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario with the Librea de Valle de Guerra. This reenactment of the 1571 Battle of Lepanto is officially recognized as a Property of Cultural Interest and uses pyrotechnics and stagecraft to bring history to life.

Meanwhile, the Leal Theatre and the Unión Tejina Theatre are hosting a diverse range of events. The schedule kicks off this Friday with Tula, Pilar Valenciano’s adaptation of Unamuno’s work. The weekend lineup includes comedy from Jorge Ávila, the family-friendly Sun Dance Family Sessions, and a performance by fado singer Camané as part of the Canary Islands Fado Festival. On Sunday, the Unión Tejina Theatre will present Un sinfín de sinsentidos (An Endless Array of Nonsense) by Teatroscopia, a show that explores the ups and downs of the creative process.

Beyond the stage, the Plaza de La Concepción will host the 13th Craft Fair all weekend. More than 30 artisans will be on hand to showcase their work, including jewelry, ceramics, and lacework, with stalls open from morning until evening.

The cultural momentum continues well into next week. The municipal schedule includes the 5th Canary Islands Big Band Composition Contest on Monday the 19th, the immersive Murder at the Leal experience on Tuesday the 20th, and the premiere of Un matrimonio sin filtros (A Marriage Without Filters) starring Marta Hazas and Javier Veiga on the 21st and 22nd. Additionally, the Efecto Laguna series will feature a performance by Nicotine Swing on Thursday the 22nd. On that same day, the Canary Islands International Independent and Auteur Film Festival (FICINDIE) will continue at the El Desleal Cultural Hall, featuring 19 films in its official selection.
