La Laguna’s Urban Planning Department has extended operating hours for bars and nightlife venues on key dates between October 2026 and January 2027 to better manage crowd control and public safety.

La Laguna’s Urban Planning Department has officially extended closing times for bars, restaurants, and nightlife venues between October 2026 and January 2027. This recurring policy aims to balance business profitability with the need to manage large crowds during the city’s busiest months.

The City Council describes the extension as an urban management tool rather than a change to licensing laws. By staggering closing times, officials hope to reduce congestion on the streets and make it easier to coordinate security and public transport. Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez stressed that this measure only applies to key dates and that all existing safety, capacity, and fire regulations remain strictly in place.

The extended hours apply to major events, including Halloween, All Souls' Day, the Christmas light switch-on, the "Noche en Blanco" (White Night), Constitution Day, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and the eve of Three Kings' Day.

Under the new decree, closing times are categorized by venue type:

  • Bars and restaurants (no music): 3:30 a.m.
  • Venues with music: 5:00 a.m.
  • Concert halls: 6:30 a.m.
  • Nightclubs and dance halls: 7:30 a.m.

For Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, all venues receive an extra hour, pushing closing times to between 4:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., depending on the category.

Adolfo Cordobés, the Councilor for Land Use Planning, noted that these extensions only apply to businesses with valid permits. Venues are granted an additional 30 minutes after their closing time to clear the premises. The council also clarified that any activity exceeding these specific limits or the terms of a venue's original license is strictly prohibited. Full details are available on the municipal website.
