La Laguna Expands Flexible Tax Payment Plans for Residents
The La Laguna City Council has introduced flexible, interest-free installment plans for local taxes, allowing 3,855 residents to manage their payments more effectively throughout the year.
Local governments are increasingly focused on easing the tax burden on households by offering more flexible payment options. In La Laguna, 3,855 taxpayers have already signed up for the city’s installment plan, covering over 2.3 million euros in taxes.
This system allows residents to spread their tax payments throughout the year without paying interest, offering a more manageable alternative to a single annual lump sum. Led by Paqui Rivero, the Department of Finance and Economic Services offers three flexible plans—four, six, or eleven installments—to better suit individual household budgets. This applies to common taxes, including property tax (IBI), vehicle tax, and municipal fees like waste collection.
This shift toward personalized payment plans is part of a broader trend in Spanish local government to use digital services to make tax collection more efficient and reduce late payments. By automating these payments through direct debit, the La Laguna City Council creates a more stable revenue stream while simplifying the process for residents.
To sign up, residents can apply online via the City Council’s Electronic Office or in person at citizen service offices throughout August. To qualify, applicants must have no outstanding debts and use a single bank account for all payments. Applications for the 2027 fiscal year must be submitted by November 1. Once enrolled, the plan renews automatically each year unless the resident chooses to opt out, helping to balance the city’s financial needs with the realities of household budgeting.
