The San Cristóbal de La Laguna City Council has launched the third edition of its revitalization program, bringing diverse cultural and educational activities to the town's six surrounding districts to improve local access.

Spreading cultural events across a wider area is becoming a key way to bring communities together in large municipalities. The San Cristóbal de La Laguna City Council recently announced the third edition of its local revitalization program, which aims to move artistic and educational activities out of the historic center and into the town’s six surrounding districts.

Running until the end of the year, the project spans a large area, including the Northeast coast, La Cuesta, Taco, Valle de Guerra, Valle Jiménez, and Las Mercedes. Adrián del Castillo, the local councilor and president of the Autonomous Body for Musical Activities (OAAM), explained that the goal is to bring culture to areas that have historically had less access, fully integrating these neighborhoods into the town's cultural life.

The program is organized into five main themes designed to appeal to different age groups and interests:

  • Menuda Cultura: Rescatando nuestras raíces (Small Culture: Rescuing our roots), led by Pedro Suárez and Margarita Arteaga.
  • A Raíz (At the Root).
  • Dinamización neurocultural (Neuro-cultural Revitalization), led by Javier Bolera.
  • Zambúllete en los libros (Dive into Books), a reading initiative run by the Mexico-Canary Islands Foundation and Yolanda Cordobés.
  • La Laguna: Cultura en juego (La Laguna: Culture at Play), coordinated by Daniel Martí.

In addition to these activities, this year’s agenda includes a traveling exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of writer and politician Luis Rodríguez Figueroa. The city is encouraging residents to get involved and can find more information through local civic centers or the council’s website, as the town works to ensure that cultural opportunities are shared equally between the city center and the surrounding neighborhoods.
