The Leal Theatre in La Laguna has officially launched the Saint Benedict the Abbot festivities by crowning its new Senior, Child, and Senior Citizen Romeras.

The recent galas at the Leal Theatre in La Laguna have officially kicked off the main festivities in honor of Saint Benedict the Abbot. The selection process has concluded, with María Cristina Déniz named Senior Romera, Triana Déniz as Child Romera, and Milagros Báez as Senior Citizen Romera.

With 57 candidates competing across the three categories, the event remains a highlight of Tenerife’s cultural calendar. María Cristina Déniz, representing the Achamán group, was chosen by a technical jury led by Julio Torres. Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez and Festivities Councilor Dailos González emphasized that the selection process focused heavily on the authentic preservation of traditional attire.

The event at the Leal Theatre featured a cultural program with performances by the Minfaya association, the Princesa Iraya Children's School, and the Los Benahoare group. The day also hosted the 8th Pedro Molina Memorial, which celebrates artisanal trades and this year honored the career of José Manuel Izquierdo de la Cruz.

The newly appointed representatives will be supported by a court of sixteen ladies-in-waiting: Guiayara Magín, Paola Díaz, Esmeralda Alexia Cabrera, and Sofía María Palenzuela (Adults); Attenya Chinea, Sara Adriana Pérez, Alyson Rosell, and Marina Chávez (Children); and Rosa María Fragoso, Elsa Amada Fernández, Jacqueline Sinisterra, and Candelaria Delgado (Senior Citizens). With these appointments finalized, the community is ready to celebrate one of the archipelago’s most significant pilgrimages.
