The San Cristóbal de La Laguna council has pledged 25,000 euros to support the development of a master plan for the Los Sabandeños House Museum, reinforcing the city's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage.

The San Cristóbal de La Laguna local council has signed a cooperation agreement with the Los Sabandeños Canary Foundation to help develop a master plan for the group’s House Museum, located at 7 Alcalde Alonso Suárez Melián Street.

The council is providing 25,000 euros, covering nearly 88% of the project’s technical drafting costs. Beyond the funding, Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez and Cultural Heritage head Adolfo Cordobés will provide technical guidance. This oversight ensures that all renovations meet the strict standards of the city’s Special Protection Plan, which is required for all properties in this UNESCO World Heritage site.

For the local government, this project is about more than just building maintenance. It aims to strengthen the museum as a vital archive and cultural hub that preserves the musical legacy of the group and its founder, Elfidio Alonso. This initiative is part of a broader heritage policy that has invested over 470,000 euros in various local projects this year.

This partnership highlights the city’s ongoing commitment to one of its most iconic cultural institutions. Following recent efforts, such as the restoration of the 1986 monument in Punta del Hidalgo, the renovation of the House Museum marks a strategic step in protecting the group’s long-standing role as an ambassador for Canarian musical tradition.
