La Laguna concluded its 25th-anniversary celebrations as a World Heritage City with an emotional and innovative closing gala at the Leal Theater, featuring the debut of its new anthem and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

La Laguna hosted a memorable closing gala last night, marking the end of its 25th-anniversary celebrations as a World Heritage City. Held at the Leal Theater, the event was described as one of the most emotional and innovative of the entire program. It also happened to be 26 years to the day since UNESCO added the city to its World Heritage list.

The gala itself was dynamic and full of surprises. It used impressive audiovisuals and technology that captivated the audience from the very beginning. A unique moment saw painter Manuel López Ruiz, whose works adorn the Leal Theater, welcome guests through his self-portrait, blending art with history. The mayor then addressed the attendees before connecting with La Laguna's sister cities in Ibero-America, highlighting the city's influence as a cultural and urban example.

Music was a central part of the evening. The newly formed La Laguna Symphony Orchestra, led by Diego Navarro, performed the "Correíllo de La Palma" suite. The highlight was the live debut of the La Laguna Anthem, also composed by Navarro, after he symbolically presented the original score to the mayor.

Other innovative features included videomapping projections on the theater ceiling, which transformed the space into a symbolic city of peace and knowledge. The event also showed clips summarizing key anniversary moments, like the civic flashmob in La Concepción square featuring the famous toast from La Traviata, and the "Punto Cero" video.

The mayor praised the ceremony, calling it "an emotional journey through the history and soul of La Laguna." He added, "We've seen our heritage expressed in new ways, memory transformed into art, and technology opening new avenues to tell our story." He concluded by saying, "What we experienced shows that La Laguna isn't just a preserved place; it's a city that reinvents itself, embraces creativity, and expertly blends tradition with modernity."

Earlier yesterday, Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez unveiled a commemorative plaque in the Plaza del Adelantado, marking the 25th anniversary of the city's World Heritage status. This plaque will serve as a permanent reminder of the occasion. The mayor described it as "a symbol of shared memory and the pride of a city that has preserved its essence while embracing modern life. Every anniversary reminds us that heritage isn't just about buildings and city plans, but the living history of its people."
