The 15th La Laguna Comic Week kicks off this Friday until December 7, bringing together top comic artists like National Comic Award winner Antonio Altarriba for talks, seminars, and an exhibition to educate on the "ninth art."

The 15th La Laguna Comic Week kicks off this Friday and runs until December 7, bringing together top comic artists from the Canary Islands and across Spain. Among them is Antonio Altarriba, who won the National Comic Award in 2010. The event will host activities at various locations, including the University of La Laguna (ULL) and Pub Sócrates, alongside online presentations. Its goal is to educate attendees about the 'ninth art' (comics), blending academic discussions with more alternative, 'underground' perspectives.

The schedule is packed with talks, seminars, discussions, author meetings, and an exhibition. Sergio Fernández Atienza will open the week this Friday evening at 8:00 PM at Pub Sócrates, giving the inaugural lecture titled 'Discovering Mexico through Comics.'

Other notable guests include Javier Marquina, a critic and screenwriter who was honored this year at the Barcelona Comic Fair for his work 'Dum Dum.' He will lead the 4th Autsaider Comics Meeting on December 6 at 8:00 PM at Pub Sócrates. Tamara Milagros Rodríguez will host the 3rd Seminar on Comics, Anime, and Feminist Theory online on December 3 at 5:00 PM. Young Canarian artist Iballa Jerónimo will also participate in an online meeting on December 5 at 11:30 AM.

Antonio Altarriba, a leading figure in Spanish and European comics and graphic novels, is known for his deep literary work, social commentary, and research into graphic language and sequential storytelling. On December 5 at 11:00 AM, Altarriba will speak online about his work and his views on how comics have evolved. This session, presented by the Antonio Lozano Cultural Chair of Criminal Genre, offers a chance to hear from one of today's most influential authors.

An exhibition titled 'El Gremio: 3 Years of Posters' will be open from December 5 to 19 at the Vice-Rectorate of Culture and University Extension. It showcases graphic works created for meetings of the El Gremio collective, highlighting the collaborative efforts of illustrators, designers, and artists from the Canary Islands' illustration and audiovisual sectors.

The 15th La Laguna Comic Week is organized by the Propulsada Association, the ULL's Radio Campus Cultural Classroom, and several authors and artistic groups, including El Gremio. For the complete program, visit semanadelcomicdelalaguna.es.
