La Laguna's Punta del Hidalgo Coastal Path has won the Blue Trail 2026 award for the sixth consecutive year, recognizing its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable coastal development.

For the sixth year in a row, the Punta del Hidalgo Coastal Path, also known as Camino de San Juanito, in La Laguna, has won the Blue Trail 2026 award. This award highlights the local council's ongoing commitment to protecting the environment and maintaining its coastal facilities. The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac), which gives out the award, confirmed the news yesterday. The official ceremony will take place on March 6 in Cullera, Valencia.

Adeac gives this award to paths that connect Blue Flag beaches or ports. These paths are recognized for helping with sustainable development and teaching people about the environment. Winning it again shows how important La Laguna's natural sites are. The council has worked hard to preserve and improve these areas, focusing on protecting local ecosystems and encouraging environmental awareness among both residents and visitors.

Over the past year, the path has seen improvements, including making the surface better for walking on and removing anything that might harm local wildlife. This information comes from the Department of Public Works, Beaches, and Swimming Pools.

A jury of thirty experts made the decision unanimously. These experts specialize in areas such as environment, health, natural heritage, tourism, accessibility, physical education, and sport, and their work was coordinated by Adeac-Fee.

The path was recently made about 450 meters longer and is now roughly 2.7 kilometers long. It starts at Roquete beach, goes past the natural pool of El Arenisco and the Punta del Hidalgo Lighthouse, and ends at the San Juanito chapel. The path runs close to the shore, known for its volcanic rock formations that are home to a wide variety of plants and animals.
