The popular Cruz del Carmen parking area in San Cristóbal de La Laguna has been closed due to the high risk of forest fires and the declaration of a maximum alert level in the Canary Islands.

Attention! The Cruz del Carmen parking area in San Cristóbal de La Laguna has been closed. The police explain that this is due to the implementation of enhanced measures (level 3) to prevent forest fires.

The Aguere Police added that due to the ban on being in this area, it will be closed to visitors.

Cruz del Carmen is a popular spot in the Anaga Rural Park, especially crowded on weekends.

As a reminder, a severe heatwave is expected in Tenerife.

Due to this, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has declared an orange alert level for the island on Saturday, and will raise it to red on Sunday.

Additionally, the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a maximum alert level due to the high risk of forest fires on the western islands and Gran Canaria.
