La Laguna Closes Coastal Pools Amid Rough Sea Alert

La Laguna City Council has closed Bajamar swimming pools and other municipal swimming areas as a precautionary measure due to rough sea conditions and a high wave alert across the Canary Islands.

La Laguna City Council has closed the Bajamar swimming pools due to rough sea conditions, as announced by the council on its social media. Shortly after, all other swimming areas in the municipality, including La Punta, were also closed.

While no damage has been reported on the La Laguna coast so far, the city decided to close these areas as a precaution to keep people safe. Bajamar, especially its pools, is located on a part of the coastline that is usually most affected by waves, and this was the case again early Saturday morning.

The Canary Islands remain on alert for dangerous waves. This alert was issued yesterday by the General Directorate of Emergencies and Security, based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other sources, and following the Canary Islands' specific emergency plan for bad weather (PEFMA).

Specifically, the forecast warns of waves at least four meters high along the coasts of all the islands, except for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where they are expected to exceed five meters. The Government of the Canary Islands states that this period of rough seas will particularly affect the west, north, and northeast coasts of the islands, as well as the channels between them.
