La Laguna City Council has paid three outstanding monthly payments to its home care service provider, clearing significant debt and addressing concerns over employee salaries and service continuity.

La Laguna City Council announced yesterday that it has paid three of the outstanding monthly payments to the company managing the local home care service. This clears a significant portion of its debt to the company.

The City Council also confirmed it has informed both the company and representatives of the works council about this payment. This fulfills a commitment made last week to the company and staff to ensure the continuity of this essential service.

Last week, employees of the home care service had expressed concerns about not receiving their October salaries. This was after the company told the works council it couldn't pay them due to money owed by the City Council.

At the time, municipal sources explained that payments were delayed because the previous contract extension for the home care service had expired and a new tender was being processed. This meant payments couldn't be made through ordinary procedures. They added that the company was updating its banking documentation, which allowed the La Laguna City Council to make the pending payments this week, a task it has now completed.

Carmen Urquía, president of the Intersindical Canaria works council, welcomed the City Council's announcement yesterday. She hopes staff will receive their October salaries on time and in full, but regretted that the company had not yet contacted the works council directly to communicate this.
