La Laguna City Council to Hold Largest Civil Service Recruitment Drive in Two Decades on July 31

The La Laguna City Council has officially scheduled July 31st as the date for selection tests to fill 61 civil servant positions. This is the largest recruitment drive the council has held in over 20 years, drawing significant interest with more than 6,500 applications.

Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez described the move as a strategic step to address the upcoming retirement of many municipal employees. By filling these roles, the council aims to ensure that public services continue to run smoothly and efficiently.

To manage the large number of candidates, the tests will be held at the Tenerife Trade Fair Center using a staggered schedule:

• 8:00 a.m.: Administrative assistants (subgroup C2)
• 11:00 a.m.: Administrative staff (subgroup C1)
• 2:30 p.m.: Management technicians (subgroup A2)
• 5:30 p.m.: General Administration technicians (subgroup A1)

Carla Cabrera, the Councilor for Presidency and Planning, confirmed that exam papers will be kept under police custody to ensure the process remains transparent and fair. This effort, coordinated by the Human Resources department and various municipal units, is intended to modernize the city’s administrative structure.

The 61 positions include a mix of internal promotions and open competition. Specifically, 13 roles are reserved for internal promotion (C1), while the remaining 48 are open to the public: 29 for administrative assistants (C2), eight for General Administration technicians (A1), five for management technicians (A2), and six for administrative staff (C1). Through this process, the City Council hopes to strengthen its technical capacity to meet modern public management demands.
