La Laguna Celebrates Winners of "Tapas Route" Competition

La Laguna celebrated the winners of its annual "Tapas Route," recognizing local restaurants Gulagú, Lagula, and Restaurante Maquila for their innovative and locally-sourced tapas, voted on by over 8,850 people.

La Laguna recently celebrated the winners of the "Tapas Route through La Laguna – San Benito Abad 2025." This event recognizes the hard work, creativity, and dedication of local restaurants in bringing innovative and high-quality food to the community.

The La Laguna City Council, along with the La Laguna Zona Comercial (LLZC) Business Association, organized the event. Estefanía Díaz, the Councilor for Commerce, and Iván Pérez, the president of LLZC, personally visited the winning restaurants to present the awards.

This year's winners were:

  • Gulagú: Won Gold for their "Solocotón" tapa, featuring a crispy base, juicy sirloin, peach wrapped in cream cheese, crispy Iberian ham, and a "spirit-lifting" piparra pepper.
  • Lagula: Won Silver for their "Gambalao" tapa.
  • Restaurante Maquila: Won Bronze for their "Km.0" tapa.

During the ceremony, Estefanía Díaz congratulated the restaurants and praised their efforts to blend modern cooking with traditional Canarian flavors, making La Laguna a top food destination. She also highlighted how the Tapas Route shows that it's possible to innovate while staying true to local roots, using authentic, sustainable, and locally sourced ingredients.

Over 8,850 people voted using the La Laguna Zona Comercial app, showing how effective this tool is for engaging citizens and boosting local businesses digitally.

Abbas Moujir, president of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA), noted that the Tapas Route has become a key event for the city's restaurant scene and a great example of successful collaboration between the public and private sectors.

Iván Pérez, president of La Laguna Zona Comercial, expressed his satisfaction with this year's event, saying it was a pleasure to recognize the winning restaurants' enthusiasm. He added that their commitment and quality raise the bar each year, making the Tapas Route a must-attend event for both locals and visitors.

The Tapas Route through La Laguna – San Benito Abad is a major initiative to boost the municipality's food scene, encouraging citizen involvement, local spending, and the use of locally sourced products. The City Council is working with local businesses and associations to promote La Laguna's unique food identity and contribute to the area's economic growth.

The La Laguna Zona Comercial (LLZC) Business Association and the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA) supported the event, working with the City Council to enhance the competitiveness of the restaurant sector and promote commerce in La Laguna.
