The final days of the 2026 Cristo de La Laguna festivities are balancing deep-rooted religious traditions with a modern cultural revival, according to the La Laguna City Council. After weeks of hosting major national music stars, the city is now preparing for its closing events, which blend popular devotion with a variety of local activities.
The transition begins this Sunday with the 11th annual Achamán Festival, featuring a performance by Los Gofiones. This serves as the final major event in a month-long program that has already showcased artists like Antonio Orozco and Luz Casal, further establishing La Laguna as a cultural hub for the islands.
The heart of the celebration arrives on Monday, September 21, for the Octave of the Christ. A liturgy will begin at 8:00 p.m., followed by a procession through the historic center, traveling along Tabares de Cala, Cabrera Pinto, and Viana streets. The day will conclude around 11:00 p.m. with a traditional fireworks display once the statue returns to its sanctuary.
The festivities continue until September 26, when the Esteban Afonso Rodríguez Pavilion hosts the 18th San Cristóbal de La Laguna Boxing Evening at 8:00 p.m. Additionally, the Hermitage of San Miguel Arcángel remains open for the "Encuentros" exhibition, featuring watercolors and drawings by Manolo Sánchez that explore the iconography of the Christ.
