La Laguna Celebrates 50 Years of Spanish Freedom with "Islas de Libertad" Cultural Event
La Laguna hosts "Islas de Libertad" this Saturday, a free cultural event in Constitution Park featuring Canary Islands artists and associations to celebrate 50 years of Spanish democracy and diversity.
La Laguna is hosting "Islas de Libertad" this Saturday, a cultural event that's part of the national "España en Libertad" program. It will showcase a variety of artistic talents from the Canary Islands.
The lineup includes well-known musicians like Fajardo, alongside newer artists such as Paula Espinosa and Eric Böelle. There will also be a dance performance called "Tun/La" by Carmen Macías, and Elia Estévez will be creating a mural.
This event, supported by the Government Sub-delegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Commissioner for the Celebration of 50 Years of Spain in Freedom, aims to reflect on where we are today and where we came from. It's a reminder of a past under dictatorship and the transition that led to the rights and freedoms we have now.
The event is free and will be held in Constitution Park from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Various groups and associations focused on memory, rights, and diversity will be there. These include the Tenerife Historical Memory Association, the Pedro Zerolo Foundation, the Association for the Recovery of Masonic Memory of the Canary Islands, and the Libertrans Association.
The team from Ambrosía-The Cultural Magazine will also be present, recording a podcast with the participating associations and groups to help spread the word about the event's content.
This celebration comes to the Canary Islands to mark fifty years of democracy, freedom, and diversity in Spain. It's designed as a space for people of all ages to connect, linking historical memory with modern creativity. La Laguna, known for its critical thinking and community involvement, is the perfect place for this discussion between the past, present, and future. "Celebrating half a century of freedom also means celebrating the diversity that defines us," said Carmina Gustrán, the commissioner for the commemoration.
Gustrán added, "Spain is a diverse country with rich regions, languages, traditions, and cultural expressions. That's why it's important for this commemorative program to be held across the country, allowing every part of Spain to participate and share its voice in this celebration of our common democratic values."
