La Laguna Begins Emergency Repairs on Historic Calle Herradores
La Laguna City Council has begun emergency structural repairs and repaving on Calle Herradores to improve traffic safety and infrastructure in the historic center.
La Laguna City Council began emergency repairs on Calle Herradores this Tuesday, August 4, to fix structural damage on one of the historic center’s busiest streets. The Department of Works, Infrastructure, and Accessibility is replacing the most worn-out cobblestone sections with asphalt to better handle the area’s heavy traffic.
The work stretches from the Casas Consistoriales parking lot to the intersection of Avenida de la Trinidad and Calle Tabares de Cala. This follows similar repairs already completed near Plaza del Cristo and the first section of Calle Herradores. Department head Ángel Chinea explained that the work was scheduled for August to minimize disruption to local businesses and traffic. Beyond repaving, the project includes reinforcing the road base, adjusting manhole covers, and repairing perimeter slabs to improve safety and accessibility.
This project is part of a wider effort to upgrade city center infrastructure, following recent repaving work on Avenida de la Trinidad and Calle Barcelona. To manage the construction, traffic flow has been temporarily reorganized: Calle Herradores and Calle Heraclio Sánchez are now operating with two-way traffic, restricted to residents with garage access and authorized vehicles only.
The City Council is asking for the public's cooperation and urges drivers to follow all posted signs and instructions from construction crews. The construction company will coordinate with residents regarding private access, and the removed cobblestones will be stored at municipal facilities for potential future use, ensuring public resources are managed efficiently.
