La Laguna Begins Early Installation of Christmas Lights to Boost Efficiency and Local Economy

La Laguna is already preparing for the winter holidays, despite the current summer heat. The City Council has begun installing the 2026 Christmas lights, a massive project that will see over 3,500 decorative pieces placed throughout the municipality.

While it may seem early to start in August, the city is doing so to improve efficiency. According to the Municipal Services department, working now—when traffic is lighter—makes it easier to use heavy machinery like elevated work platforms in the historic center and residential areas without causing major disruptions. Work is already underway on streets like Heraclio Sánchez and in the San Juan area, with the installations being completed in stages to ensure everything is safe and ready for the official launch.

The City Council hopes this early start will boost the local economy and support small businesses. The plan is to spread the decorations across various neighborhoods, rather than focusing only on the city center, to ensure the entire community benefits from the festive atmosphere.

The project is being managed by an outside contractor, which is responsible for everything from supplying and installing the lights to maintaining and removing them. Officials say this approach protects the city budget from unexpected costs. Additionally, the project uses LED technology to keep energy consumption low and meet efficiency standards.

Beyond the logistical challenge, the light display has become a major tourist attraction for Tenerife. By planning well in advance, the local government aims to ensure the display remains a high-quality, sustainable, and profitable asset for the city’s economy.
