La Laguna Begins Christmas Light Installation in August to Boost Efficiency
The La Laguna City Council has begun installing Christmas decorations in August to improve logistical efficiency and minimize traffic disruption across the municipality.
Residents of Las Mercedes in La Laguna have been surprised to see workers installing Christmas decorations under the August sun. However, this isn't a mistake; it is part of a strategic plan by the La Laguna City Council to prepare for the 2026 festive season across the municipality’s large area.
The council decided to start assembly during the summer to improve technical efficiency. Installing more than 3,500 LED decorations requires heavy machinery and aerial platforms. By working now, the council hopes to avoid disrupting traffic, local businesses, and residents' daily routines during the busier months.
Work began in July on key streets like Heraclio Sánchez and Nava y Grimón and will gradually expand to other neighborhoods. Councilor for Municipal Services, Fran Hernández, explained that the scale of the project requires plenty of time to ensure the work is done safely and correctly.
The council clarified that this early start does not cost extra. The installation, maintenance, and removal of the lights are already covered under the existing contract with the service provider. This contract allows the city to reuse old decorations while adding new designs.
Beyond logistics, the local government hopes the festive atmosphere will boost the local hospitality and retail sectors. For now, the City Council has not announced an official date for when the lights will be turned on, as it depends on the progress of the installation.
