La Laguna has awarded an €8.87 million contract to CITANIAS Obras y Servicios to construct 50 subsidized rental homes in Tejina, with completion expected by early 2029.

La Laguna is moving forward with plans to build 50 new subsidized rental homes. The City Council’s housing agency, Muvisa, has officially awarded the €8.87 million construction contract to the firm CITANIAS Obras y Servicios, SLU.

The new development will be built on a 3,586-square-meter plot in Tejina, located at the corner of Calle Auchón de Tagarafate and Calle El Gofio. The project aims to help families who are struggling to find affordable housing on the open market. The building will feature elevators, parking, storage units, and green spaces, all designed to meet modern energy efficiency and accessibility standards.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027, following a 15-day appeals period and the completion of final paperwork. Once work starts, the builder will have two years to finish the project, meaning the keys could be handed over in early 2029.

The project is being funded through a partnership between the local council, the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI), and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

While the contract has been awarded, the City Council has not yet announced the rules for choosing tenants, the income requirements, or the monthly rent prices. These details will be confirmed in a future public announcement. The project comes at a critical time, as the Canary Islands face a severe shortage of affordable rental housing, making the creation of subsidized homes a top priority for local officials.
