La Laguna Approves €630,400 Purchase for Tejina Public Car Park
The La Laguna City Council has approved spending €630,400 to acquire three plots of land in Tejina, totaling 1,710 square meters, to create a new free public car park.
The La Laguna City Council has approved spending 630,400 euros to buy three neighboring plots of land in Tejina. These plots will be used to create a new free car park. The land covers 1,700 square meters and will become public property.
The City Council stated that the plots will first be prepared to make it easy for vehicles to enter and exit, allowing them to be used as a parking area.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the mayor of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, noted that creating new parking spaces was one of the main requests from residents at the start of his term. He added that in recent years, they have worked to buy land and open new parking areas without causing more traffic in the municipality.
Ángel Chinea, the Councilor for Public Works, Infrastructure, and Accessibility, explained that these spaces are meant to make it easier for people to park their cars at key spots across the six districts. This will allow them to more easily reach homes, cultural sites, shops, entertainment venues, and restaurants.
Together, the three purchased plots measure 1,710 square meters. The largest plot is 925 square meters, and the other two are 392.50 square meters each.
The plots are located across from the TF-16 main road, Tomás González Rivero street, and Calle de Arriba. They also border Barranco de las Cuevas and the La Palma pedestrian path. This location provides good access and helps manage traffic for cars using the car park.
A key feature of these plots is a height difference of about four meters between the ends of the side facing Tomás González Rivero street. They are also strategically located, with access to three different roads leading from the center of Tejina.
The process of choosing and buying these plots started in 2020. At that time, the municipal company Muvisa asked for land offers because the City Council wanted to create new parking spaces, given the shortage in Tejina's town center.
Currently, the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure, and Accessibility is still actively looking for new land that meets legal requirements for use, both in the Northeast Region and elsewhere in the municipality.
