La Laguna Announces Traffic Restrictions for Cristo Festivities Kickoff
La Laguna will implement significant traffic and parking restrictions this Saturday, September 5, to accommodate the 2026 Cristo Festivities, which feature a concert by Antonio Orozco and various sporting events.
La Laguna is gearing up for a busy day this Saturday, September 5, as the 2026 Cristo Festivities get underway. The celebration will feature a packed schedule of sports and free live music.
The highlight of the evening is a concert by Antonio Orozco in the Plaza del Cristo at 9:00 p.m., followed by a street dance with Pepe Benavente and the Maquinaria Band Orchestra starting at 11:00 p.m.
To manage the crowds, the City Council is introducing significant traffic changes in the historic center. From 3:00 p.m. on Saturday until 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, vehicles will be restricted around the plaza, specifically on Calle Nava y Grimón between Anchieta and the concert area. Additional traffic controls will be in place on Camino de Las Peras, Felipe González Vicén, Camino de La Rúa, and Pasaje Concepción Salazar, where access will be limited to residents only.
Parking will also be prohibited from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. in several areas, including the Plaza del Cristo, Calle Pintor José Aguiar, and the affected section of Nava y Grimón. These restrictions may be extended to Camino de Las Peras if emergency services require it. Please note that the taxi stand usually located at the Plaza del Cristo will be moved to Camino de Las Peras, between Calle Padre Adán and Calle Tabares de Cala, for the duration of the event.
The festivities kick off earlier in the day with the Cristo Popular Race. Children’s races begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the adult categories at 5:30 p.m.
Local authorities advise that these traffic and parking plans may change throughout the day based on pedestrian safety and crowd levels.
