La Laguna Advances Urban Transformation Project in Los Baldíos
La Laguna has begun transforming a 900-square-meter plot in Los Baldíos into a multi-purpose community space featuring new sports facilities, exercise equipment, and public parking.
La Laguna is moving forward with a new urban project in the Los Baldíos area, transforming a 900-square-meter plot at the corner of San Francisco de Paula and La Frescura roads. According to the City Council, the project is well underway. Workers have already cleared the site, reinforced the ground for paving, and secured the perimeter, with a new security fence to be installed soon.
Overseen by Ángel Chinea, the head of Works, Infrastructure, and Accessibility, the project aims to make the space as useful as possible for the community. The design includes sports facilities and outdoor exercise equipment, alongside a new public parking area. This parking space is intended to ease traffic congestion during busy periods, such as holidays and local events, addressing a long-standing issue for the area.
This initiative is part of a larger plan by the La Laguna City Council to improve all six of its districts. The focus on creating more parking comes directly from feedback provided by local residents and the municipality’s Economic and Social Forum. The project is a collaborative effort, with the Municipal Services department—led by Fran Hernández—working to integrate green spaces and pedestrian paths into the final design.
By reclaiming underutilized land, La Laguna is following a growing trend in Canary Islands urban planning: turning empty plots into spaces that improve daily life and bring the community together. Once completed in the coming months, the site will provide Los Baldíos with a versatile space that serves both local residents and visitors.
