The La Guancha City Council has opened applications for 50,000 euros in student subsidies for the 2025/2026 academic year, introducing a new net income eligibility criteria to better support local families.

The La Guancha City Council has officially opened applications for student subsidies for the 2025/2026 academic year. Led by Elena Hernández, the Department of Education has allocated 50,000 euros to help local families cover the costs of their children's education.

A key change this year is how financial eligibility is calculated. The council will now use net income rather than gross income to determine who qualifies. This adjustment is designed to provide a more accurate picture of a family’s actual purchasing power, ensuring the funding goes to those who need it most.

The grants are available to students pursuing Baccalaureate, Vocational Training (intermediate or higher), university degrees, and qualifying master’s degrees. The funds can be used for transportation, educational materials, and tuition fees. Please note that if a student already receives tuition support from another government body, they cannot receive a second tuition grant from the council. However, they may still apply for aid to cover transportation and materials.

Applications are open from Monday, May 18, until June 6. You can apply online through the municipal website at www.laguancha.es, where all necessary forms and information are available. Alternatively, you can submit your application in person at the City Council’s General Registry office between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

In a time of rising living costs, these local grants are essential for helping students continue their education. By providing this support, the council aims to ensure that all students in La Guancha—including those who must travel outside the municipality for their studies—have the resources they need to succeed.
