The town of La Esperanza in Tenerife is launching a month-long summer festival featuring the 50th anniversary of its iconic Romería, which this year honors the cultural traditions of La Gomera.

The town of La Esperanza in Tenerife is gearing up for a summer of celebration. According to the local council, the town’s upcoming program—running from mid-July to mid-August—aims to boost local activity while preserving the area’s rich cultural heritage through a mix of sports, music, and traditional events.

The highlight of this year’s festivities is the 50th anniversary of the town’s famous Romería (pilgrimage festival), which will take place on August 2nd. This milestone event is a major date on the Canary Islands' festive calendar. To mark the occasion, this year’s program focuses on cultural exchange by honoring the traditions of La Gomera. The festivities kick off this Wednesday with an exhibition showcasing Gomera craftsmanship, a vital part of that island's identity.

The opening event will also feature the unveiling of the official artwork for the 50th Romería, created by local artist Elia Estévez. Additionally, the town will introduce the candidates for the titles of "Romero" and "Romera Mayor" (festival king and queen), as well as the senior representatives, all of whom serve as symbolic figures for the community during the celebrations.

Beyond the entertainment, these events are essential for bringing the community together. The pilgrimage acts as a way to pass traditions down through generations, while the focus on regional cooperation highlights La Esperanza’s growing importance as a key destination on Tenerife’s summer calendar.
