The La Centinela observation deck in Tenerife will be reconstructed for €1.4 million, transforming it into a tourist center for studying the history of the region and rock paintings.
In Tenerife, the La Centinela observation deck will be renovated and transformed into an interesting center for tourists. Visitors will be able to learn more about the history of the Abona region and the ancient rock carvings found there.
The local authorities (Cabildo de Tenerife) have already signed a contract for the renovation work. This will cost €1.4 million, and the work will take 9 months. The site is located between the towns of San Miguel de Abona and Arona.
Plans include:
- Providing more information about archaeological finds in southern Tenerife.
- Better preserving ancient monuments so that people can admire them.
- Making the site more attractive to tourists.
- Creating an educational center for schoolchildren and anyone interested.
- Developing mountain areas and creating new jobs for archaeologists and other specialists.
The La Centinela observation deck was built in the last century, but it has been out of operation for a long time. Local authorities complained about this. Later, a restaurant was opened there, which operated until 2018.
La Centinela is located near the main road TF-28 (85th kilometer). This place is special because there are many ancient monuments, such as rock carvings left by indigenous people. In 2018, the Government of the Canary Islands declared this area (Roque de Jama-La Centinela) a site of cultural heritage.
Rosa Dávila, President of the Cabildo, believes that the restoration of the site will help develop mountain areas, create new jobs and attract specialists in archeology. She added that La Centinela will once again become an important place where history, culture and development come together.
The restoration of La Centinela is an important event that has been long awaited. The Government of the Canary Islands and the towns of San Miguel de Abona and Arona are involved in this.
The main goal is to make this place even better for tourists, as it has unique nature and many archaeological finds. Everything in the building will be renovated, and a center will be opened on the ground floor where you can learn more about the history of the region.
