La Laguna police are investigating a knife and stick fight involving around fifteen young people, reportedly of Latin American and Canary Islands origin, in the El Cardonal neighborhood, with concerns raised about potential drug trafficking links and the escalating violence.

Around fifteen young people were involved in a fight with knives and sticks on Tuesday night in the El Cardonal neighborhood of La Laguna.

The commotion caught the attention of many local residents, who heard shouting, threats, and saw the clashes from their homes.

People from the area say that those involved in the fight are mostly young people from Latin America and the Canary Islands who live in or near this part of the Taco District.

Police will now investigate if there are any links to drug trafficking among the young people involved.

The fight happened between Avenida de El Cardonal and Calle Vallehermoso, according to sources.

Some residents called the police to stop the fight from getting worse and causing injuries.

Several patrols from the Local Police of La Laguna went to the area, searching different streets for those involved in the violent incident.

Some of the young people, a few without shirts, were seen in the area and ran off in different directions when the police arrived.

According to people who were consulted, those who took part in the fight included young people from Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and the Canary Islands.

Police found some of them on the street and others in their homes.

As often happens in these situations, none of them wanted to report the other group or give the real reason for the fight.

Some of their stories were contradictory, which made it harder for the police to find out what happened and avoid them incriminating themselves.

It was confirmed that sticks and knives were used in the fight, mainly to intimidate.

Local police identified several of the young people involved in the disturbance.

All the males found by the police had previous criminal records or outstanding warrants from different courts.

Some residents in El Cardonal worry that one of these incidents could end tragically one day, as large knives and blunt objects are being used, which can cause very serious or fatal injuries.
