An important victory that is worth more than any trophy! "UD Las Palmas" captain Kirian Rodriguez has once again defeated cancer – Hodgkin's lymphoma, which forced him to leave football last season.
Back in February, the midfielder from Candelaria announced that the disease had returned, and he would have to go through difficult treatment again. But now, almost nine months later, he is ready to play again under the leadership of Luis Garcia Fernandez. The footballer himself will announce this at a press conference.
This is not the first time Kirian has defeated cancer. He first announced his diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma in August 2022. At the time, he said he would come back stronger: "This is a fight, and I want to be seen as strong. No need to feel sorry. I will get through this and return to the field." For eight months, he watched his team fight to return to the Primera Division. And his perseverance paid off – in April 2023, he returned to the field in a match against Real Zaragoza.
After that, he helped the team return to the top division and became one of the leaders of Las Palmas in the elite of Spanish football.
But life had prepared a new challenge for him – the cancer returned. In February, again in front of the press, he stated that he would win this time as well: "It will be six months of struggle, but I am sure that next season I will be back." So he could not help the team stay in the Primera Division, and his absence was felt. He was a key player, and UD missed him very much.
But Kirian once again showed courage and strength of spirit, and won one of the most important victories in his life. He won the battle again! Now he is a full-fledged first-team player and is already working on getting back in shape. And very soon he will be able to help the team on the field again.
