On the eve of the Keroxen festival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the exhibition "Jauja" will open, dedicated to the anthropologist Fernando Estévez, with musical accompaniment and an announcement of a rich program of avant-garde performances.

The Keroxen 2025 festival, which will run from October 18 to November 28, will have a small start this Saturday in the square near the El Tanque Cultural Space in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This will be like a warm-up before the main program.

At 8:00 PM, the "Jauja" exhibition will open. This is a joint work by several artists dedicated to the Canarian anthropologist Fernando Estévez, who was born in La Orotava (Tenerife) in 1953 and died in 2016.

The artists Idaira del Castillo, Naira González, Maite Henríquez, Puru Márquez, Andrea Moreno, and Eider Oliva participated in the creation of the exhibition. They worked together, combining play, understanding, and humor. Their works are related to food and culinary art, inspired by the myth of Jauja.

The opening, which will be free, will feature an ensemble of minimalists from the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands. Young musicians will play works from Bach to Sakamoto, creating an atmosphere for the performance.

All of this was announced at a press conference attended by Cristóbal de la Rosa (representative of the Government of the Canary Islands for Cultural Affairs), José Manuel Bermúdez (Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife), José Carlos Acha (Councillor for Culture of the Cabildo de Tenerife), Javier Prieto (representative for Tourism of the Canary Islands), Maite Henríquez Sánchez (anthropologist), and Néstor Torrens (director of Keroxen).

Maite Henríquez explained that the "Jauja" exhibition is about a land where people can find refuge. She said that in our troubled times, everyone has the right to dream of a better place.

Not only Fernando Estévez was mentioned, but also Dulce Xerach Pérez, who passed away last September. She did a lot for the development of the El Tanque Cultural Space and the Keroxen festival. Néstor Torrens emphasized that it was thanks to her work that El Tanque became what it is now – a symbol of how to give new life to industrial heritage and turn it into a cultural center.

From next Saturday until October 28, various events will take place at El Tanque, turning it into a "center of avant-garde music and performances," according to the organizers.

The program includes more than 30 performances from Europe, Africa, Asia, and America. Among the participants are Julián Mayorga from Colombia, Otto von Schirach from America, the Italian collective Spime.IM, saxophonist Alba Gil Aceituno from Gran Canaria, Koreans TUHO, Palestinian duo Maya Al Khaldi & Sarouna, Japanese Meuko! Meuko!, Briton Container, American duo Matmos, and Canarian band Miniatura. There will also be additional activities, such as a forest restoration day and meetings to discuss important issues.
