The mayor of Arafo, Juan Ramón Martín, is considering early resignation to return to teaching, which could lead to Jonathan Gutiérrez being appointed as the new mayor, amid controversy over joining the "Canarian Coalition."

Juan Ramón Martín, the mayor of the town of Arafo and a member of the Canarian Coalition, is considering stepping down as mayor earlier than planned. He had wanted to hold the position for 8 years, but may leave after only 6 in order to return to teaching. Two more deputies may resign with him, one of whom due to health problems. If this happens, the new mayor will most likely be the young Jonathan Gutiérrez.

Martín is a professor of geography and history. He has a permanent position at the IES Magallanes school in Granadilla. In the 2021-2022 academic year, he had to teach there in order to retain this position. Now, if he does leave the post of mayor, he will be able to return to teaching. In Arafo, almost everyone is sure that he will leave.

Jonathan Gutiérrez is a young specialist in fine arts and design. He became the first deputy mayor, and is also responsible for public services, roads and sports after Virginia Rodríguez resigned. He is considered the best candidate to replace Martín.

Another issue that is causing disagreement among the deputies is the requirement of the Canarian Coalition to join them and abandon the name of the local association. The deadline for making a decision on this issue expires tomorrow.
