"Vuelta a Tenerife": Martin – champion, Suárez won the last stage!
In the "Vuelta a la Isla de Tenerife" cycling race, José Carlos Suárez won the last stage, and José María Martín became the overall winner.
The "Vuelta a la Isla de Tenerife" cycling race returned after a three-year break and immediately gave us a bright finale! The 65th anniversary edition ended with a short but very exciting stage.
José Carlos Suárez from the Tenerife Bike Point team snatched victory yesterday on the 43-kilometer track in San Cristóbal de la Laguna. He fought for the lead from the very start! But, despite the frantic pace and attacks from rivals, José María Martín (Team Extremadura–Pebetero) managed to maintain his lead in the overall standings.
Martín, who performed excellently in the previous days (was fourth on Saturday and won Friday's time trial), confidently defended his purple leader's jersey and also became the best in the regularity classification.
The urban track, 43 kilometers of fast and technical laps with four straight sections, was ideal for an explosive finish. Intermediate finishes on the 5th, 10th, and 15th laps added tactical tension to the race. Laguna fans flooded the streets!
Small elevation changes (between 560 and 549 meters) did not make the track easy. Constant accelerations and attacks changed the pace of the group. Manuel Rodríguez (Extremadura–Pebetero) was very active in the intermediate sprints and won the jersey for their victory.
But the main hero of the stage was local favorite José Carlos Suárez (Tenerife Bike Point). His lightning sprint brought him victory and caused a flurry of emotions among Laguna fans. Suárez also became the best cyclist from the Canary Islands and took third place in the overall standings, receiving a double portion of applause in the 65th edition of the competition.
On the podium with Martín stood Frenchman Corentin Dufour (Lescar VS), who fought tirelessly and deservedly took second place, and Suárez, the hero of the last day. Catalan Aleix Sierra (CC Lleida–Pedro's) won the mountain jersey on Saturday, winning at La Esperanza.
Representatives of the authorities were present at the Vuelta closing ceremony. The organizers from Cabildo de Tenerife, IDECO, and Deportes Tenerife, who are the main sponsors of the competition, received words of gratitude for their support. Thanks to them, the prestige and influence of the Vuelta are growing again.
Vuelta a Tenerife 2025 will be remembered for Sierra's cunning in the mountains, Suárez's perseverance in La Laguna, and, above all, the persistence of José María Martín, the new king of Tenerife!
