José Manuel Ramos Marks 30-Year Career with New Retrospective Show at Teatro Leal

José Manuel Ramos, a key figure in the Canary Islands' music scene for the past 30 years, is marking a major milestone with his new show, Todo de mí (All of Me). As he nears his 60th birthday, Ramos describes the project as both a look back at his career and a personal journey of self-reflection.

The concert will take place on September 13 at the Teatro Leal in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. It will feature 14 songs that have shaped his professional life, ranging from his solo work—which began in 2002—to his time with iconic groups like Los Sabandeños and the Parranda de Cantadores. Ramos highlights tracks like El unicornio and No volveré as particularly significant; the latter is remembered for successfully introducing the ranchera into the standard repertoire of local parrandas. These styles, alongside boleros and other Hispanic-American music, have defined his signature sound.

Ramos chose the Teatro Leal for the premiere because of his deep personal history with the venue, where he has performed since childhood. He notes that he feels more at home there than anywhere else. This retrospective comes at a time when the musician feels a sense of fulfillment, having successfully balanced his artistic passion with the challenges of a rapidly changing music industry.

Looking ahead, Ramos is already planning a 2027 project dedicated to the musical legacy of his mother, Olga, who has been a major influence on his work. He also continues to perform as a duo with musician Benito Cabrera, a partnership that began in 2018. While he admits that songwriting has not been his primary focus, Ramos is eager to explore new creative directions. He remains committed to his roots in traditional folklore while continuing to establish himself as a leading independent voice in Canarian culture.
